The Alabama District News
Hello all, as we move closer to the end of 2015 and things slow down just a bit, we hope you will take this time to spend with friends and family during the holiday season. Many of you will be traveling to visit and we want to wish each of you very safe and enjoyable travels.
At this writing Thanksgiving is just around the corner and Linda and I would like to wish you and yours a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday. Please be safe in your travels to visit friends and relatives.
As the month of December brings on the Christmas season, a time to spend time with not only our own family members but our GWRRA family as well. We hope you will be able to attend your Chapter Christmas party. This has always been a highlight for us and a tradition we always look forward to. Linda and I would like to send our best to all of you during this wonderful season.
Chapter Directors, please remember our annual District Officers Conference will be held at the Gardendale Civic Center (where Chapter Y has their funday each year) on Saturday January 16, 2016 beginning at 9AM. Please remember that closing financial statements are due no later than that day. If you would like, you can forward these to Sara Leach anytime before then and not have to worry with it that day. If you have any questions about this please contact Sara, your ADD, or us. We are all willing to help you any way we can. Also, if any of your Chapter Officers cannot attend, please bring their information (name, address, phone number, GWRRA number, and email address) with you. We will need all of this info for our 2016 contact list.
Finally, please remember all of our men and women in uniform everywhere as well as their families and also all of our first responders and their families. They serve and protect us each and every day. Please say thanks when you see them. Again, Linda and I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving holiday and a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We hope to see all of you soon.
2015 is soon to be history and Gail & I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. We hope you get to spend time with your family and friends. Please remember our service men and women that will not be at home this holiday season as they serve and protect us all.
The Alabama District Officers meeting will be January 16th, 2016 at the Gardendale Civic Center. This is the same location as last year. There are several chapters changing officers so if you have any questions about paperwork or financial reports just give us a call. We are here to help you with this.
Once again Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to all.
SAADD GREETINGS to all!
The holiday season is here in full swing and we are falling right in the HAVE AS MUCH FUN AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS mode. We have started our fun and we know of MUCH MORE that is on the way. I love the Thanksgiving and Christmas time of year where we begin to focus more on family, friends and many of the blessings we have been blessed with rather than all the other things that cause us heartache. I hope that each of you will take some time and list your faults and complaints about life and then list all the blessings and special things that are in your life and I know you will find a lot more good than bad. It’s too bad we seem to focus on all the faults more that we do the blessings! Make a real effort to change your focus for the coming year at least to BLESSINGS rather than FAULTS! When you do this you will find the quality of your life greatly improves, I promise!
We had a great time at the Southeast Region A Convention in Eufaula AL in October and it was another great event! For those of you that went, I know you really enjoyed yourself and were very well pleased with the event and the participation. We were blessed to have had Carl and Jan Breeding represent us in the Region Couple of the Year competition this year and even though they didn’t bring home the bacon this time, they really did us proud!!! We were so pleased with their efforts and so glad we could be there and root them on! God bless them both and especially remember Jan in your thoughts and prayers for the coming weeks as she recently lost her Dad. Our hearts are heavy for her and the family but I know she can feel the love from all of us for her.
Christmas will be here in a few weeks and I know we all are looking forward to the Christmas Parties and special events surrounding this great time of the year. Remember to pay your blessings forward, think of others and do something special for someone else this year. We are so blessed even just to be part of this great association with so many wonderful, special people that do so many wonderful things for others. Please don’t forget that EACH OF YOU ARE TRULY SPECIAL and we love you all. Thanks for being there for us and thanks for just being you. Always try to spread the love and tell your friends and family about your great experiences with GWRRA and your local chapters. Invite them to join you and I promise, it will change their lives too!
Remember that GWRRA is a wonderful association and we want all “good folks” to be part of our great family. Share your calendars and your experiences and feel free to call me or Kathy anytime if we can assist in some way with you. Use those beautiful Gold Wing motorcycles and others to enrich your life and strengthen your GW family ties and relationships and make more memories of a lifetime! You deserve it! We look forward to many more miles of riding pleasure with all of you and please, stay safe out there. That’s the only way we can continue to make it fun.
Merry Christmas from our house to yours. The November through December time frames normally mark a time that we gather with friends and family to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year and begin to speculate about the joys and accomplishments that lie ahead. Let us all make every attempt to ensure we are here next year at this time of the year so we can do it again then.
As you plan your travels to visit your loved ones, make sure you have allowed adequate time for your travels to allow for rest breaks, meal stops, obeying speed limits, and most of all the extra traffic that is on the roads due to holiday shoppers. Plan to encounter adverse weather, if you don’t encounter it, it is a pleasant surprise, and you have more time to enjoy the get-togethers.
When traveling in the winter, it is advisable to have extra warm clothing in the vehicle; that way if the vehicle experiences mechanical failure, or you have an accident and have to wait for help to arrive you can put on the extra layers to keep warm while waiting. Many of us now carry “battery boxes” in our bikes, it might be a good idea to carry one in the vehicle you are traveling in in cold weather. The cold makes battery failure more likely, and you don’t want to have to try to get a jump when you can’t run the engine to keep warm.
I don’t have all of the answers, but I try to make suggestions of things you can do to make your travels a little safer. Have a wonderful holiday season.
Where has the time gone? By the time this gets out Thanksgiving will have arrived and gone. Hope everyone had a good time with family and friends and did not add on too many pounds.
Just because the weather has cooled off does not mean you have to sit home and watch the leaves fall. Please stay active and participating with your chapters. You can still attend all the meetings in cars or any other means of travel you may have. When going on rides or other events try car pooling, you can still have fun.
As we enter December, please think about who your next COY may be, or an individual of the year. Remember these are not duties forced on someone, it is an honor given to someone for their loyalty to their chapter. All they are required to do is what they have already been doing. Having fun!!
Now is a good time to be getting your decorations for the Rally Chapter Challenge. Remember chapters will be decorating a Christmas Tree for the Rally in May.
Christmas is just around the corner and there will be lots of folks out shopping and going to Christmas Parties, so please be safe on the streets and roadways. Always expect the worse from other drivers then be thankful when they do it right.
Please remember all our military and first responders as things don’t look so good right now. If you think you have it bad, believe me there are many a lot worse off.
We wish a HAPPY THANKSGIVING and a Merry Christmas to everyone.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and in most chapters Happy New COY and IOY. Most of the chapters name their Couple of the Year and Individual of the Year at their Christmas Party, and then they have a year to prepare if they wish to participate in the District Selection process. If you are the newly named Couple, I would encourage you to consider participating. Contact Terry and Barbie Cleveland to get a copy of the score sheets so you know what all you need to be doing in the interim.
Most of you have heard by now that Jan lost her father to cancer on 17 November, his memorial will be on 12 December, so we won’t be out and about as much as normal. Do not get the bright idea that this means we are no longer interested in our GWRRA family, it is just that we have obligations to our other family to take care of. We treasure dearly the friendships we have developed with so many of you, and we would be remiss if we did not take the time to tell all of you how much you mean to us.
I thought we knew a lot of people in GWRRA before, but that number has increased dramatically due to our participating in the Couple of the Year program. Thank you for letting us represent the Alabama District and all of you.
