  -- District Director

April, 2014.

The first Rally in the Region A lineup is now over and in the history books. Bill & Gina Berry, along with their team, put on a very enjoyable event.  The weather, vendors and facility were all very nice.  For future information, they will be back in the same location next year. If you have not been to their event, put it on your calendar for next year.

The Alabama District Rally is on the horizon: NEXT WEEK. The hotel is ready, and we hope there will be something that will interest you. We want to thank all our Chapter Directors and members for helping us with this event.  Your support is really appreciated; without it, the rally would not be possible.

The Traveling Plaque is on the move, and participation is picking up.
Al-L is now the keeper, and it will be up for capture in the near future. It appears to be moving South; so as the weather gets better, chapters can do an overnighter to capture it.  This is also an opportunity to visit and get to know members that you do not see on a regular basis.

Thanks again for all that you do. We really do appreciate all your efforts and for making Alabama one of the best Districts in Region A.

Greetings fellow riders, well another month has past, where does the time go? We had a great time this month with chapter fun days, the forty to Phoenix ride through B’ham, finally some sunshine so we could get out and enjoy our favorite pastime. Hope you had a chance to enjoy the prelude to spring.

At this writing, the Alabama District Convention is just around the corner. Everything is set, the hotel is ready for us and excited that we are back there again, spring has sprung, and we are looking forward to the weekend in Mobile. We have a lot of activities planned for you this year including lots of interesting (and some new) seminars, plenty of activities, the selection of a new Couple of the Year, bike show, lighted bike show, a crash scene response demonstration including first responders from Mobile, and of course, the best talent show around. We hope you have plans to attend all of these functions, and we hope lots of you are planning to participate in the talent show. We always have fun with this one so be a part of it this year. Almost forgot, we are going to feed you on Thursday night and our personal favorite, ice cream on Friday night. We hope everyone will be attending, we promise that with the activities we have planned and the numerous interesting places to visit around Mobile, and you will have a great time.
On Saturday April 19th, chapters F, Q, and Z are having a funday, the first in a long time for these chapters. We hope everyone can make this event. It should be a great time. The chapter director from each chapter has told me that they plan on having a great event, rain or shine. Please check the district website for more info. Hope to see you there.
Following this event on April 26th, Chapter G will hold their annual funday. If you are in the mood for some good food (and who isn’t) and a great time (Diane always has some new games and events scheduled) please make you plans to be there. Information is available on the district website or on Chapter G’s website. Hope to see you there
The next Region A event is the first weekend in May in South Carolina. The South Carolina District Convention is May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.  These folks always put on a great rally and everyone has a great time (they feed you well also). We hope you will make your plans to be there. Information is available on the district website.
In closing, we would like to thank all of the great members of this organization who take their time to volunteer for leadership positions. All of your chapter officers give a lot to try to help each of you have a more enjoyable experience with GWRRA. Please take a moment to thank all of these wonderful folks who give so much. Thanks everyone. Please remember all of our men and women in uniform and all of our first responders who sacrifice for us every day. A very special thanks to all of them. We are looking forward to seeing all of you in Mobile.

Hi all,
What some beautiful weather we have had recently except for the cold temps but they seem to be getting better now too.  We are ready for more fun times and experiences with our GW family and friends and a lot of things are going on to help us do that too.  It seems that we have many things planned for the next several weeks and it will be fun, fun, fun for all of us.
Kathy and I visited Chapter M in Phenix City AL with Randall and Jan Shirah and gosh what a time we had.  The meeting room was standing room only and they had a lot of stuff happening with a lot of fun!!  It is great to see people enjoying life and having fun with their GW family and they were really doing it. There were so many discussions about having fun with some great door prizes and a pot of money.  Good job Randall and Jan and keep up the good work.
I also visited Chapter G in Samson AL this month. Jim Lee went along with me as Kathy was not feeling well and we really enjoyed it.  Doyce and Dianne Colvin had their meeting place packed out also and we had a great time.  They discussed many of the activities they have done and many of those coming up and it sounded like many memories have been made with the GW family.  Everyone was so friendly and it just made you feel good.  Great job Doyce and Dianne and thanks for the warm welcome.  A special thanks to Doyce & Dianne for the ‘guided tour’ through the back roads that saved us a lot of time going home that night.  That was over and above what was required and confirms that GWRRA people are special!
As I write this article, we have not experienced the District Convention here in Mobile yet but I know it is going to be great.  There are many vendors expected to be there with plenty of “Safety Chrome” and other good stuff so I know it is going to be a wonderful time for all of us.  I will discuss much of what happens in my next article after the Convention but make sure you are there and registered for all the fun because we’d hate for you to miss it!
Our GWRRA - Alabama families are wonderful and we all need to make sure we welcome any and all “good folks” to join with us in having fun.  We love you guys and we look forward to many more miles of great riding pleasure and hours of Fun with our Friends and Families in GWRRA - Alabama.  Remember that we are all Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge GWRRA and let’s SPREAD THE LOVE!

Things are warming up and everyone seems to be getting ready for the riding season. Some chapters have put on Parking Lot Practices and we have put on a well-attended TRC and ARC. All of this training help folks tune up their skills after not riding for a while. If you need some training, please contact me and I will help you get is set up.

National has created a way for every GWRRA member to track their status in the levels program.  Everyone can access the Rider Education Data Base for review their own levels program records.
To do that go to:, then sign in with the same user ID and password you use to access the national information. The Data Base will show you the current status of your records in there.

If after reviewing your records, something is not correct, contact your Chapter Educator and we will work to get your records updated.

The Alabama District Convention is next weekend and Sue and I are looking forward to seeing you there.

-- Motorist Awareness Division District Coordinators

The rally is coming, and so are opportunities to complete the Motorist Awareness Seminars for anyone who needs one to get current or advance in the Levels Program, see you in Mobile! Now that I got the advertising out of the way, I hope to see many dear friends there.  There is nothing better than a gathering of friends with similar interest.  We always manage to have more fun in a shorter period than we thought possible.  The vendors are great, the classes are informative, but for us the best part is the friends we so seldom get to see.

I feel obligated to remind you to do your part and arrive safely, save the clowning around for the rally, the trip itself is serious business.  Ensure you are visible to the other drivers, avoid blind spots, and do all of the other things we teach in class; we want to see you where we can talk to you, not in the hospital or morgue.  I have been to altogether too many funerals in the last couple of months.

Of course, I have to remind everyone it is time for quarterly reports, so ensure the Motorist Awareness Coordinators and Rider Educators have turned in their reports now, before the rally.  The other thing I HAVE to mention is Motorist Awareness Day; the date?  Saturday 17 May 2014 is the day that has been approved for Motorist Awareness Day for Alabama, both the Welcome Center Manager and the manager of the Rest Areas have given this date their approval.  I chose this weekend because the previous weekend is Mother’s Day, the following weekend is Memorial Day.  I hope as many of you as can, will join in this effort to make our highways safer for riding our motorcycles.

Hope to see you in Mobile.

                        Spring has Sprung
It is about time, I am tired of the cold. Still a few cool mornings to come for some of us but we can handle a little cool.
Well the first convention (rally) is in the history books. Sorry I could not make it down to Kissimmee for the FL. Get together. From what I here they had a good showing. I never got a call telling me I was the winner of the new Goldwing so I guess someone else has my new bike. Hope they enjoy it.
The Alabama (Rally) Convention is just around the corner starting April 3 thru 5 Hope to see a lot of you there, and hope everyone has a good time.
Thanks in advance to all the chapters that help with putting this on. It takes everyone working as a team to make this a fun and learning event.
The next Region A event will be the SC Convention May 1 through 3 make your plans now, it will be in a new place this year.  Check on the AL. Dist. web page for all the news and updates for Conventions and Chapter Fun Days.
Will make this short since I am already late.

Ride safe
See you in Mobile
