The Alabama District News
-- District Director
We hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe 4th of July. For those of you who were able to attend Wing Ding and help with ticket sales or seminars, a big THANKS for helping. Many members from Alabama were there to help in many ways, and some had to endure some nasty weather to get there. The Madison area is very nice, and the weather, once Wing Ding started, was really great.
If you have not heard by now, Alabama will be hosting Wing Ding 37 in Huntsville, Alabama in 2015. Please note, the new date is September 3rd-6th and the location is the Von Braun Center. There have been some changes around the center and Huntsville since Wing Ding was there in 1998. There are now more hotels and restaurants within walking distance of the event. The Huntsville area has many things to offer, and we are excited to be a part of this and hope each member of Alabama GWRRA will help make this a Wing Ding to remember.
The District Plaque is moving, and the attendance has been good. The District Plaque is an opportunity to not only ride but to have a good time socializing and seeing other chapter members. If you think you don’t have a chance to capture the plaque, think again. One of our smallest chapters in South Alabama has claimed it once, and they have said it will be theirs again. Check the District website for information about the date and location of the next offering. Remember the chapter with the most captures will have their Charter fees paid for 2016.
September, 6 will be the date of the District Picnic at Confederate Memorial Park. We will get started around 10:00 a.m., and as always, we look forward to seeing everyone there. Also, please remember the admission to the event is FREE.
The Region A Rally is the 11th-13th of September. Dewey and Alice Cole will be representing Alabama in the Couple of the Year selection. Since her fall in Mobile and subsequent surgery, Alice has recuperated nicely. They have been visiting chapters and attending many other GWRRA events. They were seen at Wing Ding working and visiting with members from other parts of the country. Come on to Eufaula and show your support for them. If you have not registered, please do so. Since this rally is in Alabama, we need to have the largest District in attendance. The numbers are determined by preregistration; so put this on your events calendar.
Thanks again for all that you do. We really do appreciate all your efforts and for making Alabama one of the best Districts in Region A.

Greetings fellow riders, July is almost over and what a month it has been. There have been lots of activities for all to participate in. For those who attended Wing Ding in Madison we hope you had a great time. As all have probably heard by now, Wing Ding will be in Huntsville, Alabama next year during the Labor Day weekend. This is only the second Wing Ding to ever be in Alabama so we hope you are already making your plans.
There have been lots of chapter events going this month and we certainly hope you have had an opportunity to participate not only with your home chapter but with other chapters as well. The district plaque has been moving around the state and just this past Saturday(the 19th) Chapter L from Thomasville made the trip to Irondale to the Whistle Stop Café and took home the trophy. Congratulations to them for making the effort and capturing the plaque. Be on the lookout for info as to when Chapter L will be putting the plaque up for grab again. This is a great opportunity to get out and see old friends and for the chapter to enjoy a great day of riding together.
The district picnic is not too far off, September 6th at the Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury, Al. We hope your chapter is making plans to attend. Remember there is no charge to come into the park or to participate in the days activities. Free food and beverage and lots of socializing and good times for all, we hope to see everyone there.
Please remember all of our men and women in uniform who serve and protect us each day and their families and all of our first responders and their families also. Remember that it is still hot weather out there for a while longer so stay hydrated while out on the road. We hope to see everyone soon and if we can help you or your chapter please let us know.

Can you believe the summer vacation time is almost over already? It seems like it just started and now it’s nearly over. Man, time is flying by!! I hope you all have been taking advantage of the opportunities to do something fun and exciting and use every excuse possible to RIDE YOUR GOLD WING. Riding is what it’s all about, you know!
We have theWeekend at the Opry in Nashville Tennessee coming up August 29 – 31. Registration is still available although it will be late through August 4th but you need to make it quick if you’d like to go! Time is running out. Read all about it in your latest copy of the Wing World Magazine. The recent announcement of the new time and place for WingDing 37 – 2015 has generated some buzz lately. I have heard some pro and con comments about all that but no complaints about having it in Huntsville AL again. Huntsville is pretty and exciting with lots of nice places to visit and some really nice riding around the area. Make sure you register and check it out and I promise, you won’t be disappointed. The lodging is filling up fast so make your reservations for September 3 – 6 soon. It will be another great experience.
We had some great events over the last few weeks with some great rides and we have seen some beautiful countryside. We live in a wonderful country with so much to offer and so often we don’t even know it or take advantage of it. Get out and ride and see what I am talking about. Here in Alabama we have everything from beaches to mountains to lakes and rivers to covered bridges, Indian Mounds, race tracks, beautiful parks and more. How many other states are so blessed with ALL of the above? Not many I’m sure. Get out there and take advantage of your home state of ALABAMA and ENJOY! She is already there and waiting on you to come see her!
Speaking of all these fun things we do, have you shared your GWRRA life changing experiences with someone special lately? If not, you need to do that. We have a wonderful extended family that we all love and your friends need to know all about it too. Remember thatGWRRA is a wonderful association and we want all “good folks” to be part of our great family. Share your calendars and your experiences and feel free to call me or Kathy anytime if we can assist in some way with you. We look forward to many more miles of riding pleasure with all of you and please be safe out there. That’s the only way we can continue to make it fun.

"JULY", that means WING DING! Madison, Wisconsin here we come! Gerald & Debbie Russell drove their car and we rode with them. That made the trip so enjoyable. We all had a good time while at Wing Ding. We sold tickets one day and worked at the Information Booth another day. Got to see lots of friends we had not seen since last year at Wing Ding and made some new friends, Oh yes, we also did some shopping! Wing Ding will be in Huntsville, Alabama, September 2015. We attended the Couple of the Year selection. Buddy & Kim Summer did a great job representing Region A. We want to say Congratulations to John & Barb Pons. They are the 2014-2015 International Couple of the Year. They are also the District Directors for Colorado. At the beginning of this I said Gerald drove to Wing Ding and we rode with them, well, we all decided we would like to go to the Colorado Convention, so Dewey's driving to Colorado and Gerald & Debbie are going to ride with us. More fun! I understand there will be several from Alabama in Colorado. That means even more fun.
July 12th Dewey & I along with Gerald & Debbie Russell attended Chapter M's meeting in Phoenix City. They had a large turnout. We got to hear a small amount of what went on after a few of them traveled north to Michigan and other places after they left Wing Ding. Something was said about what took place on the trip stayed wherever it took place. Sounded like they had a great time.
July 26th we rode the Gold Wing to Trenton, Georgia to attend the Big Hamburger Run at Randy's Restaurant. Chapter N had 9 bikes on the ride and 2 bikes came in later. Great turn out for Chapter N. It felt good to be on the bike with the chapter.
If we have not visited your chapter meeting yet, we will get there. Remember the Region A Convention is September 11-12-13. Hope everyone can make it!
