  -- District Director

October, 2014.
September is almost done, but it has been an active and exciting month.
The District picnic was well attended, and the weather was more than cooperative. Rain had been predicted, but members arrived to eat and visit with their GWRRA friends. The Confederate Park has always been a good place for the picnic, and the workers there look forward to seeing us when we plan activities there. If you did not get to visit the museum or grounds, plan a chapter ride and spend some time touring this attraction.

The Region A rally is now in the history books; and I believe, a good time was had by all. Thanks to all of the Alabama members who attended the rally, helped with the vendor gate and just simply participated. Alabama was the largest District in Attendance from Region A, and THANKS once more for making that happen.

The Region A Couple of the Year was held on Friday morning, and there were five couples in the selection process. All of them deserving; but the honor went to Dewey & Alice Cole of Al-N. Everyone knows Dewey & Alice and how much fun they are to be around. During their onstage presentation, Alice had everyone in stitches and Dewey just added to her antics. Dewey & Alice will be visiting other Regions, Districts and chapters during the upcoming year. They will be in the selection for International Couple of the Year at Wing Ding 2015 in Huntsville, Al. Make plans to be there, and give them all the support they deserve.

The Mississippi Rally is October 16th -18th. This will be the last rally for the year, and we hope you can make this one. It will be in Gulfport again, and as always, I am sure a lot of fun things have been planned.

The District Plaque is still on the move. Since the weather is getting cooler, the riding will be getting better. Put it on your ride calendar, and go get it.

If there is anything we can do just let us know.

Greetings fellow riders, the month of September has flown by. The first part of the month started out hot, as usual, but the last week or so has been pretty good riding weather. We hope everyone is getting a chance to get out and enjoy a little early preview of the great riding weather that is almost here.
This month we had the District picnic in Marbury. The weather cooperated and everything came together very well. Everyone we talked to had a good time and enjoyed the chance to catch up with old friends. A big thanks to everyone that made the trip and took their time to come spend the day with us.
Even though we didn’t get to attend, we understand the Region A rally turned out very well. We have talked to several of you since your return and everyone has told us they had a great time. A special congratulation to Dewey and Alice Cole from Alabama N for bringing home the Region A Couple of the Year title to Alabama. Dewey and Alice are great ambassadors of not only Alabama but of GWRRA. They will make a great International Couple of the Year. Be on the lookout for them during their travels and give them a big hug and thanks for all they do for Alabama, Region A, and GWRRA.
The final district rally of the year is coming up in October in Biloxi Mississippi. The Mississippi rally will be held Oct 16th thru the 18th. If you have not made plans to attend please do so. Everyone always has a great time in Biloxi and this year should be no exception.
Finally, the District Safety Weekend is coming up October 4th and 5th at the Honda plant in Lincoln, Al. This weekend is free to all Alabama GWRRA members so come on out and enjoy a great time with us. If you wish to take any of the riding courses or Medic First Aid, please sign up as soon as possible. Spaces are limited and you don’t want to get left out. We hope to see everyone there.
With the upcoming change in the weather for the fall riding season, please remember to take all of your riding gear when you leave home. The weather will change rapidly this time of year so always be prepared. As always, if there is anything we can do to help you or your chapter, please call on us at any time.

See everyone out on the road,

Frank & Linda Teasley

What an exciting month we have had and what exciting times are ahead of us for this month too.  We attended some great dinner rides with our local Chapter A family here in Mobile as well as some great weekend rides to several interesting places in Mississippi and Louisiana.  Wow, what a wonderful blessing to live in a great country like the USA and especially here in lower Alabama.  The gulf coast is a beautiful area with so many things to do with places to go and sites to see and we are FREE to explore all of this as often as we want to.  Our freedoms are something we often take for granted and we don’t appreciate or think about them often enough.  As you all know, we just commemorated the 13th anniversary of our 9/11 disaster that changed all our lives and we truly are blessed.  Just don’t forget it!  BE THANKFUL and REMEMBER!!! We are also blessed to be part of the greatest motorcycle association in the world, the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.  Be proud, be thankful and appreciative of your leaders and those that do so much to help us all enjoy this special part of our lives.
We participated in the Region A Convention in Eufaula and had a wonderful time!  So many of our GWRRA family worked hard and helped to make this event wonderful and your assistance and help was noticed and greatly appreciated.  So many volunteers for so much work made it great!  THANKS!  We are also proud of our new Region A Couple of the Year, Dewey and Alice Cole.  What a wonderful experience and what a GREAT COUPLE to represent us this year!  They did a terrific job in their interviews and sharing with the group and we will be excited to see them become the new International Couple of the Year at Wing Ding 37 next year in Huntsville AL.  I sound pretty certain of this huh!  Well, I really believe it will happen and I hope everyone has made plans to attend and support Dewey and Alice in their quest as well as take advantage of the opportunity to have a lot more fun, right here in Alabama.
Remember that GWRRA is a wonderful association and we want all “good folks” to be part of our great family.  Share your calendars and your experiences and feel free to call me or Kathy anytime if we can assist in some way with you.  We look forward to many more miles of riding pleasure with all of you and please be safe out there.  That’s the only way we can continue to make it fun. SPREAD THE LOVE!

It is time for the quarterly report on Motorist Awareness.  All chapters should complete and submit their
Rider Education Report to Richard Chapman .  If you  use the Rider Education Report N.6 to report the number, just put MAD in the block under the place where it says “Other Meeting or Group and indicate the number of folks you contacted and send to Richard Chapman as you do every month.  If you wish to use the N23 MAD report, send it to me at ceb reed ing* att: net.

Take the time to talk to the folks you meet during your adventures, keep track of numbers and submit them on your monthly report.  This may not be as good as doing a formal presentation to a Drivers Education class, but it is a lot better than nothing.  I often feel like I should get credit for all of the motorist who have to make an extra effort to examine my trailer which I normally pull on trips, at least the ones who ask if they can take pictures, I almost always remember to say “As long as you promise to watch out for motorcycles.”    We had some interesting conversations during the fuel stops on our trip to Key West this spring; I venture to say most of the people we talked to will notice motorcyclist a little more.  Please make the effort and talk.

Many of you may have noticed that Jan and I haven’t been out and about much this summer, Jan had to have a complete knee replacement on 2 September, the pain beforehand and the recuperation time have put a damper on this riding season, but next year is another matter.  To all who sent Jan their prayers and well wishes, thanks for the thoughtfulness.

Ride Safe.

Well September has come and gone and boy was it a busy month. With all that was going on I hope everyone got to participate in something.
We had the District Picnic at the Confederate Park down in Marbury with a good turnout despite the chance of rain.  The food was great but the comradery was even better. I think everyone made it home without getting wet.
The Region A rally/vention was at Lake Point Lodge in Eufaula where they rolled out the red carpet again for us. It is always good to spend some time there. Everything is in one place.
The Region COY selection was made on Friday morning with 5 great couples participating. Glad I was not having to judge for we would have 5 COY’s. LOL  But we can only have one.
Congratulation’s goes to Dewey & Alice Cole from chapter N in Gadsden. They have been around in GWRRA for a long time and loved by all. Watch for them in their travels, as I know they will be on the go. If in doubt just see Alice.    LOL
There were also several plaque grabs going on with good turnouts for those. Weather is cooling off now and a good time to ride so get a group together and go capture the Region or District Plaque.
The MS rally/vention will be in a couple of weeks in Gulfport so make your plans. Bobby and Lori have been putting on some good ones so everyone go and let them know how much we appreciate all the hard work they have done. They have a lot of good venders lined up also. This is the last rally of the year in our region so you might get some good deals. Better than having to store all that stuff for the winter.  (hint hint) Hope to see a lot of you in MS.
This is getting a little long so I will shut up.

    Keep recruiting and having fun.

-- District Couple of the Year

September means fall is here.  Cooler weather in the mornings and evenings, which makes good riding weather.  This month for us has been busy and wonderful.  We visited with Chapter J in Tuscaloosa.  They have a very active chapter with lots of members.  We met their Couple of the Year, Roy & Kathy Giles.  We showed off our belt buckles we received for participating in the selection for Couple of the Year, but they showed us theirs and theirs were bigger.  The only thing we had then was ours were Free, they said we had them there.  The next week we visited Chapter Y.  Had lots of fun visiting with them.  They had a good turnout of members.  Everyone was getting ready to attend Region A Convention.
We are proud to have been honored by our chapter to represent them in our District Selection as their Couple of the Year.  Alice wanted a belt buckle, so we needed to participate.  That's all you have to do to win the belt buckle.  We are amazed and proud to be selected as the District Couple of the Year.  We signed a paper saying we would participate at Region, if we won District, so we did.  Oh my goodness, we were told to HAVE FUN!  We did!  We Won!  Thanks to everyone for your support and kind words.  We hope we will make Region A proud.  We will do our best.  We plan on visiting every chapter in Alabama. Hope to do some traveling to other Regions also.  Promoting GWRRA and the Couple of the Year program is our goal where ever we go.
We are now packing to ride to Cherokee, North Carolina in the morning, to attend North Carolina's District Convention.
