December, 2014.

November is done, and Christmas is just around the corner. We began November with the Veterans’ Day Parades. There were several Veterans’ Day Parades across Alabama, and many of our chapters participated. There were 23 bikes that came to Birmingham to ride in the largest parade that still exists. While we waited and decorated bikes, many veterans, both active and retired, would walk by. They thanked us for participating, and all I could do was thank them because if not for what they do or have done in the past, we could not enjoy the freedoms that we have today. Veterans’ Day is not just November 11th.  Whenever you see a Veteran, just shake their hand and thank them for all they do, or better yet, buy them lunch or dinner.

Thanksgiving really begins the holiday season. It is time to visit family, eat (which I know everyone will take advantage of), and give thanks.

Gail and I, along with the District Team, want to take this time to wish each and everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you for all that you do for Alabama GWRRA. If it weren’t for you, this organization would not exist and we would not have the friends that we have.

There are several New Years’ Day rides on the District website.  Take advantage of one, and begin the New Year with a ride with friends.

Once again, have a great Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us.

Greetings fellow riders, as we approach this holiday season it is time to take pause and look back at this past year. Did you have a great year? Did you get to ride and spend time with friends? Was this a year that you will remember? We certainly hope that each and every one can answer yes to all of these questions. If not, maybe now is the time to figure out why and begin to make plans so at this time next year you will be able to answer yes, we had a great year. Remember that you only get out of this great organization what you put into it. Get involved, have fun, make new friends, visit old friends, ride the best motorcycle in the world, after all that is what brought all of us together to start with, right?
We had the privilege to participate in the Veterans Day Parade in Birmingham again this year. The weather was great, the crowds were very large, the parade was very long but very satisfying, and best of all we had the opportunity to say thanks to a very special group of people to whom we owe a great debt, our veterans. If you missed the opportunity to participate in a Veterans Day event in your community take the time to thank a veteran whenever you see them. We certainly owe them a great debt for protecting us and all of the freedoms we enjoy each day. Say thanks every chance you get!
Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we hope everyone has a great day and gets to spend time with friends and family, and of course, eat a little, watch a little football, take a little nap, and then start all over again that evening. And as a special bonus, LEFTOVERS!!!!!!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Chapter Directors and Chapter Officers please be sure to mark your calendars for Jan 10, 2015 as that is the date for our annual officer’s conference at the Civic Center in Gardendale, Al. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
To wrap up, we hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday season. From our house to yours, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.
We hope to see everyone soon,

Frank & Linda Teasley

The holiday season is upon us and there is a lot of stuff going on this year too.  There are parties and parades and shows and family events happening everywhere and life is busy but life is good.  We all must remember to be especially thankful for our blessings and for those that have sacrificed so much to help make our lives great, here in the greatest country in the world,AMERICA!!  Our military, our veterans and the families of those that have sacrificed so much, so that we can enjoy our freedoms are special and deserve our thanks.
The weather is getting colder and our opportunities to ride will probably be affected soon so don’t miss an opportunity to go every chance you get while the weather lets you.  Kathy and I attended theChapter M gathering 11/1 in Phenix City which happened to be the last chapter meeting for Randall and Jane Shirah as CD’s except for the Christmas Party.  Gosh what a great time with a lot of fun and foolishness but that’s what it is all about, HAVING FUN!  Randall & Jane have done an exceptional job, grown the chapter tremendously and had a blast doing it over the last 3 years and it shows.  Thanks to them for their great service and I know the new CD’s, David and Linda Snyder will continue the fun and fellowship.  We have our Regional Officers Conference scheduled for Dec. 5, 6, 7 at Lakepoint Lodge in Eufaula AL and our Officers Conference is coming up on Jan. 10 in Gardendale AL  next year so make your plans to attend.
We have some great local Chapter A rides on the calendar for this month as well and several great excursions coming up that you don’t want to miss.  The 33rd Annual New Years Day Ride is scheduled for Jan 1 and is always a great time, going to Ezell’s Fish Camp in Lavaca AL near Butler.  Several chapters have New Years Day Rides to so check your calendars and make your plans to attend.  I can’t think of a better way to start off a new year than with a great motorcycle ride!  TheMS Chapter B Chili Cookoff is scheduled for Jan 25th at Paul B Johnson State Park again and that is always a great event too.  Don’t forget our Wing Ding 37 next year in Huntsville AL.  Make sure you have made plans to attend as this will be another one for the books.  I know Chapter A has a lot of people scheduled to go and I hope your chapter will too.  We need to make Alabama proud and Region A/District A proud as well by having large numbers in attendance.  It will be a blast!

The year is coming to a close and if you have not had fun it is your fault. Most all chapters have been putting at least 4 to 8 events on each month. That does not mean that you have to attend each and every one of them. It gives everyone an opportunity to participate in some of them.
As the weather is getting colder you can participate by going in the 4 wheeler not a rule that says two or three wheels only.  Just get out and have fun.
I would like to see more chapters getting out and capturing the Dist. and REG. Plaque’s.  Chapter D went to Stuart FL. and captured the REG. Plaque with 19 heads. Some went on to Key West and made a week vacation out of it. They gave it away the 22nd and had 127 people in attendance. Yep Florida came and took it back to Daytona. They will be giving it away in January.  The Dist. Plaque is visiting with Chapter M and they will be giving it away in January also.  I would like to see another chapter get them both at the same time again.
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and has a Merry Christmas. Remember invite your older members that don’t ride anymore to your Christmas Party.
We have done well in Alabama this year in recruiting new members, but we are still at a loss for the year.  Once I get the next full ARL I will break it down so each chapter can see the results for the year.
Everyone be safe during the Holidays

Dewey and I are so Thankful for everything we have, like Health, Family, Friends and our GWRRA Family.
We want to say Thank You to everyone for being so kind and supportive to us through our Couple of the Year journey.
When we were selected by our Chapter, that was GREAT.  We knew Alabama District gave a Belt Buckle made by Jim Hodge and all you had to do was participate.  Alice wanted a Belt Buckle.
Winning District was more than we could ever imagine.  THAT IS A GREAT HONOR. Now being selected for Region is a ULTIMATE DREAM.  We are so PROUD to be blessed with this honor.
November 11th we rode in the Birmingham Veteran's Day Parade.  The weather was sunny and perfect and there was a large crowd to view the parade.  We had snacks and good fellowship with Chapters N, Y and T.  November 22nd we attended a MAD seminar. Thank you Bill and Vicki Cater for having it at Steel United Methodist Church.  We also want to thank Phillip Teasley for teaching the class.  After the class we all went to Chapter D's Plaque Give Away.
There was a large turnout and it was so good to see everyone.

Until Next Time,

Dewey and Alice Cole
